Bremen / Bremen City Center02.06.2014The longest cough sweet of the world
The world’s longest cough sweet originated in Bremen and is still produced in Vegesack Fähr-Lobbendorf. Called the longest cough sweet of the world because of his peppermint taste, the Bremen Babbeler was invented by confectioner and sweet cooker Albert Friedrich Bruns in 1886.
The Bremen Babbeler is still produced in the traditional way. Because of its popularity the production plant of Bruns was soon copied. Already in the 20s a second one, that of the company Friedrich Germann, originated in Bremen. In the 30s a Babbeler factory was opened. Today only one of those many manufactories is left, the traditional Babbeler manufacture Friedrich Bruns. Friedrich is the grandson of company founder Bruns and, like his forefathers, he is a qualified sweet cooker. He is over 80-year-old, but still manufactures Babbeler in manually and also delivers them himself.
You can buy Babbelers at Bremen Freimarkt and Vegesacker market. Besides they are available at some kiosks in the city centre as well as in almost all pharmacies in Bremen.
