Enjoyment Region Stuttgart
Haute cuisine or Swabian specialities, fine wines or refreshing beers, celebrating at traditional festivals or hiking in the vineyards – the enjoyment in the Stuttgart Region manifests itself multifaceted. Stuttgart is a city with a long tradition of wine growing. The local wines range from Lemberger to Syrah and from Chardonnay to Riesling. Not only a joy to drink: the Stuttgart Region's vineyards are perfect for long walks. At the Stuttgart Museum of Viniculture visitors can learn about the many different aspects of wine-growing in Stuttgart. At the end of the circular tour visitors can sample the wines of Stuttgart's vintners in the Vinothek, where more than 20 different wines from the region can be tasted each month. Also the traditional festivals like the Stuttgart Wine Village and the Stuttgart Christmas Market stands for culinary enjoyment of Stuttgart. One particular highlight: in 2018 the Stuttgart Beer Festival celebrates its 200th jubilee. From 26th September to 3rd October, in the heart of Baden-Württemberg's state capital, people will commemorate the festival's founding by King Wilhelm I of Württemberg and his wife, Queen Katharina. There will be a "Historical Festival" on Palace Square, with nostalgic fairground rides and showmen in the tradition of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The landing page which has been conceived for the thematic focus bundles the content of the Enjoyment Region Stuttgart. The hashtag #tastystuttgart has been introduced to promote the social media measures. During the whole year ten "enjoyment ambassadors" – from a starred chef to a food blogger – present the region's culinary aspects in a wide variety of ways.
Cradle of the automobile and cultural metropolis
The fascination continues, even after 130 years. With the invention of the universal engine, Gottlieb Daimler laid the cornerstone for today's mobility. Stuttgart's two large automobile museums make automotive history come alive. The spectacular Mercedes-Benz Museum documents the development of the automobile in tangible form – from the year 1886 up to the present day. At the Porsche Museum visitors can trace the unique brand history of this sports car manufacturer. Along with the Motorworld in Böblingen, these tourist flagships have long been crowd pullers, attracting guests from all corners of the globe. Visitors can get a glimpse behind the scenes of automobile production during a factory tour of the Daimler AG in Sindelfingen. It begins in the pressing plant and continues with the "ballet of the robots" and finally the marriage of the chassis and the power train in the assembly areas.
Culture is one of the most important international flagships of the Stuttgart Region. The Stuttgart State Gallery is presenting works of art from around eight centuries. The Old State Gallery is one of the oldest museum buildings in Germany, the New State Gallery is a masterpiece of Postmodernist architecture. The large special exhibition "Wilhelm Lehmbruck. Variation and Perfection" will be staged from autumn. The 26-metre-high glass cube of the Stuttgart Museum of Art is a work of art in its own right. The museum’s collections comprise over 15,000 works dating from the late 18th century up to the present day, and ranging from Swabian Impressionism to contemporary art. The permanent exhibition will be supplemented by the special exhibition “Ecstasy in Art, Music and Dance”. The Württemberg State Museum is not only one of the oldest state-run museums in Baden-Württemberg, it is also Baden-Württemberg's largest historico-cultural museum. The exhibition “Fascination sword” traces the cultural history of these legendary weapons. Stuttgart's Linden Museum is one of Europe's leading museums of ethnology, giving fascinating insights into the art and civilisation history of non-European peoples.
